The Team
Origin Story.
SG Division began with our first team rider, Luke, an early tester and foundation rider. His insistence on perfection pushed the team to experiment, refine shapes, and rigorously test prototypes. Without his scrutiny and persistence, this journey may never have begun.
On 31st October 2024, we discovered a unique shortboard construction method — a breakthrough that gave riders unmatched control and performance, creating a true unique selling point.
In November 2024, ISA Level 2 surf coach Ben Goosey joined, testing prototypes and providing expert feedback. By March 2025, Harlyn Sykes and Joel Kite received their first custom boards, forming the foundation of a new performance-focused team.
On 29th June 2025, SG Division was officially founded as a collaboration between Surfboards UK and Groundswell Surfing, creating a team-first identity rooted in performance and progression.
Also in June, Entropy joined the journey, providing eco-conscious resin and technical support. Their collaboration allows the team to test and refine boards efficiently, pushing performance while staying responsible.
By September 2025, the first official SG Division board was produced, marking a new chapter in high-performance surfing.
Performance. Purpose. Progression.
Every board, coaching session, and design decision exists to maximize performance, empower riders, and foster growth. SG Division is a team-first project: riders, coaches, and shapers working together, obsessing over detail, and never settling.
Innovation
SG Division boards are built to push the limits of performance, control, and rider progression. Every design decision is deliberate, every board meticulously crafted, and every prototype rigorously tested.
Unique Construction Method
Our breakthrough shortboard construction provides a level of control and feel that most boards simply can’t achieve. Each board can be optimized for specific conditions and riding styles, allowing riders to feel precisely how they want their board to perform.
Blind Testing & Rider Feedback
Every team rider receives two boards identical in shape, weight, and finish — with only one subtle difference. Riders aren’t told what it is; they simply surf the boards and give honest feedback. From this process, we learn exactly how that difference influences control, feel, and performance across all conditions. This rider-driven insight is the foundation for every board we produce.
Data-Driven R&D
We combine observation, experimentation, and feedback to refine our boards before they even hit the water. By rigorously analyzing performance, we create boards that deliver predictable, repeatable, and optimized results.
Eco-Friendly, UK-Made Materials
SG Division boards are made using UK-manufactured blanks and Entropy resin with 29% biocarbon content. This approach minimizes carbon footprint, ensures quality, and aligns with our philosophy of sustainability — pushing performance without compromising responsibility.
Attention to Detail, Obsession with Craft & Purpose
From sanding each board to the precise weight to testing variables one at a time, we obsess over every detail. Every decision, every step, exists for a reason — there’s no filler, no gimmicks. Each board is crafted with a clear singular purpose. Every coaching session, every prototype, and every design reflects this commitment to excellence and progressive improvement.
Progressive Improvement
SG Division is never static. Through careful feedback, iterative refinement, and collaboration with riders and coaches, every board and every session pushes boundaries, empowering riders to continually progress and excel.

Groundswell Surfing Academy
Groundswell Surfing Academy, in proud partnership with Surfboards UK Ltd, is the UK's dedicated performance centre for the ambitious surfer. Founded and run by Ben Goosey (Goose), a highly qualified ISA Level Two Surf Coach, Groundswell was born from the realisation that intermediate and advanced surfers needed accessible, high-quality coaching to avoid plateauing. We provide the expertise and technical feedback required to transform your surfing ability, whether you're chasing competitive results or personal bests.

Elite Coaching & Video Analysis
Groundswell’s core strength lies in its in-depth, performance-focused coaching methodology. Ben Goosey employs detailed video analysis in every session, breaking down technique with objective clarity that instant feedback can miss. This allows for targeted drills focusing on power generation, rail engagement, and wave reading. This meticulous approach ensures that every session builds a solid, demonstrable improvement, translating directly into better performance when out on the water.
Supporting Tomorrow's Talent
A key focus for Groundswell is nurturing the next generation of British surfing talent. We are immensely proud to actively train and mentor our sponsored athletes, Joel Kite and Harlyn Sikes. Working closely with these rising stars showcases the high-level commitment and strategic support we offer, extending beyond standard lessons into full competitive preparation, tactics, and long-term development plans.

Programmes For Every Level
While dedicated to advanced performance, Groundswell offers a range of structured options to suit your current goals. From intensive Winter Training Programmes designed to maintain or build fitness during colder months, to bespoke one-to-one sessions, we tailor the experience. Our aim remains consistent: to replace plateaus with progress and build surfers who are confident, skilful, and passionate about every wave they catch.
